On assignment in Zamboanga. Halfway through the book im doin, about Filipino children...i find myself overwhelmed with emotion. The sites and sounds of my experiences with the Badjaos makes you think of life that is completely different from what you know.
Calm Monsoon

It was a few days before the rainy season starts. There is a window where the sea is calm, the wind is breezy and the sky is slightly overcast. This is when the summer ends and the violent weather hits the region. Thanks to Tita Tess and Tita Marlyn who made this trip possible. Good food, good friends, yoga and the picturesque landscape . Perfect weekend.:

Sampaguita Trail

Things we often take for granted when were on the road, goin to church or when were harassed by kids begging us to buy just one (pathetic looking sampaguita ) so they can be on their way home. Followed the trail of the country's national flower. There was soo much story that lies behind the iconic sampaguita kid. Abangan ang libro namin : ) bow!

This a project by WWF.

Location:

l5°05'N, 120°53'E; near the towns of Candaba, San Miguel and San Ildefonso, 50 km NNW of Metro Manila, Pampanga and Bulacan Provinces, central Luzon.

Description of site:

A complex of freshwater ponds, swamps and marshes with surrounding areas of seasonally flooded grassland, arable land and palm savanna on a vast alluvial flood plain. The entire area is usually flooded in the wet season, but most of it dries out during the dry season (late November to April) and is converted into rice fields and plantations of water melons. The main area for waterfowl is an impoundment of about 300 ha, with a mixture of open shallow water, small islands, and rafts of floating vegetation, adjacent to the Pampanga River about nine km north of Baliuag. The impoundment is used as a fish pond during the rainy season, and then drained in January ...

Salamanca

  For Saira

On a train journey without a destination,
Someone invented Salamanca as a person.
She was an orchid of pure imagination
When she first appeared as fiction,
The heart’s eye in “The Salamander Dream of Jorge Macatangay.”
In “Summertime” she became a poem.
Does she echo the flamenco of magical Spain?
Someone asked in the monsoon rain.
Is she the one also known as Saira,
The “glistening sands” of the Sahara?
No one can tell and no one can foretell.
She may be the arabesque in a strange bazaar,
A sudden engagement with depth of field
When the moment of beauty sets us free.

Feb 4,2008
                                                         Victor Peñaranda

Road trip to Donsol, Sorsogon

Recently went to Donsol to do some research for a publication. The Alcantara family was nice enough to invite me on a road trip to Donsol. : )

Bicol landscape is picturesque, with Mt. Mayon and Mt. Isarog dominating the lanscape it was truly breathtaking.

Donsol is a coastal town made famous for the whale shark sightings during the summer. It was a surreal, beautiful and awesome experience swimming with the gentle 'butanding' or whale sharks. I was so moved by the whole experience that I have no pictures of these gentle giants! Ha! Some things are made to be remembered in memory.

But there is more to Donsol than the whale sharks. There is a firefly tour. Along the river bank that opens up to the bay, mangrove forests can be found. At night these mangroves light up like Christmas lights! I have never in my life seen so many fireflies, just

The whole show was very informative. They gave a very comprehensive information on the how and what are hot air balloons and who are the pilots manning the craft.

Oh what was a complete surprise was our skydiving military and police men & women! Their skydiving routine was awesome! Felt really proud of them! Astig!

THINK NEW THOUGHTS. SHARE BIG DREAMS. DO BRAVE THINGS.
THE WHYNOT? FORUM : INSPIRING FILIPINO INGENUITY

The Why Not? Forum (www.whynotforum.com ) is inspired by TEDTalks (www.ted.com ), wherein leading thinkers and doers around the globe share their thoughts, ideas, dreams, and experiences, which are then posted on the web as online videos for all the world to see. We envision The Why Not? Forum to be the Filipino version.

The Why Not? Forum is a smorgasboard of great, brave ideas --- an open-source innovation soup that will hopefully inspire other Filipinos to connect adjunct thoughts, take impactful action, and weave together new breakthrough ideas -- redefining and challenging the inertia of the status quo; All in the spirit of positive change for the Philippines. This is NOT your usual forum. It is NOT boring, stiff, nor bland. The spirit of the Why Not? Forum is impassioned, quirky, creative, revolutionary, irreverent, and innovative.
